Vertigo Treatment

Vertigo is a common symptom seen when patients come into a chiropractors office. This is more prevalent if they have received a recent trauma to the head and neck. Vertigo and dizziness can be a very disabling problem for people.

The sense of dizziness or spinning associated with Vertigo is frequently accompanied with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, abnormal eye movements and sweating.

What is Vertigo?

Vertigo is a sensation of motion either of the person or the environment. Imprecisely called dizziness, the term vertigo is the specific term used to describe an illusion of movement. Unlike nonspecific light headed feelings or dizziness, vertigo has relatively few causes. It is very important to determine if vertigo truly exists

What are the symptoms of Vertigo?

The duration of vertigo can last for minutes or hours and can be constant or come as episodes. Movement or a change in position can trigger an episode. Make sure when you see the doctor you report any recent head trauma or whiplash injury as well as any new medicines you may be currently on.

Some other signs you may suffer from vertigo include:

  • Hearing loss
  • Ringing sensation in your ears
  • Visual disturbances
  • Weakness
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Decreased level of consciousness
  • Difficulty walking

Is Vertigo treatable?

Although there are many causes of Vertigo it is more often than not, very treatable. Of course the type of vertigo treatment is dependent on the cause. That is why the your chiropractor at Virginia Spine Care Chiropractic will do a complete examination when you first visit us for vertigo treatment.

In some more extreme cases our chiropractor will refer you to a neurologist for further analysis and assessments. Fortunately for most people suffering from vertigo, the most common causes do respond well to chiropractic treatment.
