Virginia Beach Chiropractor – Dr. Jay Berkowitz
Dr. Jay Berkowitz is a Virginia Beach Chiropractor who specializes in using the latest non-invasive technologies to treat chronic pain, migraine headaches, personal injuries, and soft tissue injuries, with his specialties being personal and sports injury. Dr. Jay’s philosophy is to retrain the muscles along with the chiropractic adjustment.
In doing this, the patient not only will be relieved quickly of pain, but also will heal quicker resulting in the fulfillment of their potential goal of optimal health.
Dr. Jay is a graduate of the University of Alabama where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Business Administration in August 1997. Dr. Berkowitz studied chiropractic at Life University and graduated in December of 2001.
After passing his State and National Boards, he studied with highly-skilled doctors while learning and creating his own unique techniques to better treat his patients. Dr. Berkowitz is knowledgeable in the latest rehabilitation techniques that work together with the chiropractic adjustment.
A native of Hampton Roads Virginia, Dr. Jay was born at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, he grew up in the Kempsville area and is a 1993 graduate of Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach. Dr. Berkowitz is excited to be in the heart of the city and loves serving Virginia Beach as well as the entire Hampton Roads community..
Virginia Beach Chiropractor – Dr. Thomas Skelton
Dr. Skelton has been in chiropractic practice since 1986. Dr. Skelton’s education consists of a Bachelors in Chemistry from Michigan State University, a Masters in Occupational Health from Wayne State University School of Medicine, and his Doctorate in Chiropractic from Life University, where he graduated as Valedictorian.
He has more than 4,400 hours of specialized study in the areas of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, radiology and orthopedics. Dr. Skelton’s areas of expertise are personal injury care from neuro-musculo-skeletal injuries. He has specialized training in spinal decompression therapy, physical rehabilitation, physical therapeutics and work ergonomics.
Dr. Skelton is a also consultant to business and industry in the prevention of on-the-job injuries and cost effective healthcare.
Dr. Skelton specializes in the treatment of joints, especially of the spine, that have become misaligned causing mechanical malfunction and nerve interference. This results in wellness or an absence of dysfunction, while promoting a safe, non-surgical method of healing.
Dr. Skelton volunteers his time to lecture at corporations and organizations throughout the area as part of an overall health education and public awareness campaign to promote good health.
Prior to becoming a chiropractic physician, Virginia Beach Chiropractor Dr. Skelton was an Industrial Health and Safety specialist for Conoco/Phillips. He was responsible for employee monitoring for exposure to physical and chemical elements; design and implementation of control methods; and training of employees in health and safety.
Virginia Beach Chiropractor – Dr. Michael McConnell
Dr. Michael McConnell attended National University of Health Sciences in Chicago,IL where he earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic Medicine. Prior to Chiropractic school,Dr.McConnell attended Chowan University where he earned his degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and played baseball.
He is from Poquoson,Va and attended Poquoson High School where he played baseball,football and basketball. Before joining VSC Dr. McConnell worked with the College of Willim and Mary Athletic Program.
Dr.McConnell has training in Functional Rehabilitation, Strength/Conditioning, McKenzie Protocol, KT Taping and other techniques specific to manual medicine and Chiropractic care.
Dr.McConnell prides himself on patient education to improve function and the prevention of injury.
Virginia Beach Chiropractor – Dr. Jon Parmiter
Dr. Parmiter is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician credentialed by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians. He continues to serve as the Official Team Chiropractor of the Norfolk Tides (Baltimore Orioles AAA affiliate), a position he has held since 2002. Dr. Parmiter has also served in the past as official team chiropractor of the Norfolk Admirals (Tampa Bay Lightning AHL affiliate), Virginia Destroyers (Professional Football team of the UFL), Norfolk SharX (Men’s Indoor Professional Soccer team of the MISL), Virginia Beach Piranhas (Men’s and Women’s Pro-Am Soccer teams of the United Soccer Leagues), Virginia Hurricanes (Semi-Pro Football team of the NAFL), Norfolk Tru Hope Trailblazers (Men’s Minor League Professional Basketball team of the ACPBL), Virginia Beach Mariners (Men’s Pro Soccer team of the USL, as well as affiliate to the D.C. United and the New England Revolution of the MLS), Norfolk Nighthawks (Of the AF2 and AAA affiliate to the Arena Football League) and Tidewater Floods (Women’s Tackle Football team of the NWFA).
Dr. Parmiter holds certification from the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and is licensed with the Virginia Board of Medicine and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic, Spartanburg, SC in 1995 where he was awarded a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. In addition, Dr. Parmiter attained post-graduate certification in Physiotherapy from New York Chiropractic College, Seneca Falls, NY in March of 1996. He has also received certification in Sports Injury and Physical Fitness from Logan College of Chiropractic, St. Louis, MO in February of 1998. In 1994, he achieved South Carolina certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.
He completed his undergraduate studies from Penn State-Behrend, Erie, PA and Spartanburg Methodist College, Spartanburg, SC. While at Penn State in 1990, he was inducted into Alpha Sigma Academic Honor Society.
Dr. Parmiter has served on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Chiropractic Association from 1997-1999, at which time his position was that of District Representative for Northwest Virginia. He served as co-chair for the Education Committee from 1998-1999, as well as chairperson of the New Practitioner Committee.
Dr. Parmiter also had the honor of being named “1998 Young Chiropractor of the Year” by the Virginia Chiropractic Association.
He also served on the Board of Directors for Guardian Care Alliance of Virginia, a state-wide Independent Physicians Association, where he was co-chair of the Credentialing Committee, as well as serving on the Mt. Trashmore Board of Management for the YMCA of South Hampton Roads.
He is President and CEO of Parmiter Inc., DBA Virginia Beach Sports Chiropractic and Virginia Beach Sports Testing.
Originally from Conneaut Lake, PA, Dr. Parmiter now resides in Virginia Beach, VA, along with his three children, Chase, Jake and Faith. When not seeing patients, Dr. Parmiter spends the majority of his time speaking and testing athletes within the community, as well as volunteering his time to local athletic events.
